Coordinating Architect: WKMC Architects
Project Architect: Dykema Architects

“Since 2002, WKMC Architects, Inc. has worked continuously to “raise the bar” for the planning, design, and implementation of all building projects at Del Mar College.”

Del Mar College was recognized nationally for the Exemplary Practices Award by the Association of Community College Business Officers for selection and contracting for both design and construction. WKMC Architects worked jointly with the College to develop the process and systems which were recognized.

The quality of campus and building design and the quality of all campus construction have been significantly elevated since WKMC began managing the College’s planning, design, and construction program.

In addition to coordinating and managing all of the projects listed below, WKMC Architects has acted as the Building Program Manager to develop the following for the College:

  • Bond Plans for 2003, 2008 Revenue Bond, and 2014;
  • All bond program budgets;
  • All bond projects’ scope;
  • All bond projects’ phasing, sequencing, and scheduling;
  • Architect, Engineer & Consultant selections;
  • Contract negotiations;
  • College building and construction standards;
  • Project delivery system selections;
  • Design management of all projects;
  • Construction phase management on all projects 2003-2016;
  • Construction Phase quality assurance;
  • Owner’s Representative during design & construction;
  • Approval of all payments to contractors and consultants;
  • Project start up and close out coordination;
  • Warranty follow-up

“Their collaborative approach to the planning and design process enabled the College to complete a $103 Million Capital Improvement Program on time and on budget beginning in 2003.

The WKMC team has coordinated the College’s work to plan, design, budget and construct a dozen major projects on two campuses and two learning centers across the College district.  As a result of this collaboration, thousands of students benefit from learning environments conducive to high academic standards.

Working with College officials, WKMC designed and implemented an Architect/Engineer and Contractor selection process that has earned national recognition for transparency and fairness.  Their attention to quality design and construction, coupled with implementing a “Best Practices” approach, has served Del Mar College well.”
