WKMC designed this new library to simultaneously serve as a public library branch as well as a school library for neighboring Kaffie Middle School in Corpus Christi, Texas. This new building was connected to the existing school by a covered walkway, and includes 90 new public and staff parking spaces and other site improvements.
WKMC designed the entire project including furniture selection and interiors, and collaboration with artists for both carved brick and etched glass. The architectural design complements the existing campus through the use of similar brick and concrete. The building is a non-combustible, steel structure with stud walls and brick veneers. The children’s library was designed around a Tinker Toy theme.
The final change order percentage for this project was less than 1%.
“I would like to commend WKMC Architects…for the concept, steadfast presentations, and incorporation of the Committee’s ideas and input for the Garcia (Southside) Branch Library. Working as a team from July 2006 until May 2008, we produced “a little jewel” of a building…It was a masterful feat, with a dedicated architectural group, Librarians, City Engineers, Corpus Christi ISD representatives and volunteer involvement.”
