This Public Safety Facility houses the Police and Fire Departments, Courts System and City Hall. Serving as a hub of safety services for Aransas Pass, Texas, the project utilized an existing building by reorganizing its interior layout and making efficient use of existing features. Although each entity functions independently of the others, it proved to be most economical for the City to house them together. Therefore, from an outward appearance, each entity is represented with a separate entry.
WKMC transformed the original building into a coastal design with stucco towers and clay tile roofs. Each tower announces a department entry. Lush tropical landscaping and trellis-covered walkways connect the different departments. The original flat-roofed metal building with a brick veneer is no longer visible. The interiors of the facility are simple masonry block construction with decorative banding and contrasting paint. Junctions within the core of the building are highlighted with skylights helping signify intersections and incorporate natural light.
