The energy efficient, four-story Flint Hills Field Services Building in Corpus Christi, Texas, provides a comfortable and well-lit environment for employees to work together to improve refining operations for Flint Hills Resources.
WKMC provided architectural, engineering, and Building Information Management (BIM) services for this 125,000 SF flagship facility. Designed and built to meet the demands of the Gulf Coast climate, the building features 12-inch thick concrete panels, impact-resistant glass, and concrete roof deck. Sustainable design elements include; low-impact landscaping, high-performance glazing, sunscreens to reduce heat gain, DALI programmable LED lighting, and solar-control lighting devices for daylight harvesting.
Flexibility in the work environment was achieved through column and power pole-free office spaces combined with modular furniture. The activity-based interior design facilities communication with multiple conference rooms, divide-and-combine spaces, main networking areas on each floor, casual meeting spaces at stair vestibules, and write-on walls were used throughout.
Technology integration is provided through access floors. Ten-foot-high integrated ceiling systems with sound masking systems, plus advanced audio/visual systems throughout the building meets the technological needs of the company. Additionally, security and life safety features have been fully integrated into the design and building, while still retaining open and accessible character.
