WKMC designed the new Dr. Clotilde Garcia Library to simultaneously serve as a public library branch as well as a school library for neighboring Kaffie Middle School in Corpus Christi, Texas. This new building was connected to the existing school by a covered walkway, and includes 90 new public and staff parking spaces and other site improvements.
WKMC designed the entire project including furniture selection and interiors, and collaboration with artists for both carved brick and etched glass. The architectural design complements the existing campus through the use of similar brick and concrete. The building is a non-combustible, steel structure with stud walls and brick veneers. The children’s library was designed around a Tinker Toy theme.
Our Garcia Library project was featured in a spread in Design Solutions Magazine, in a piece titled “Children’s Library; Playful Library Design Promotes Reading,” as seen below. Visit Design Solutions Magazine to view the publication.
