Corpus Christi, TX – August 9, 2018 – Connie G. Rivera, AIA, is the 2018 recipient of the Texas Society of Architects’ award for Young Professional Achievement in honor of William W. Caudill, FAIA.
This prestigious award honors a single architect member who has made significant contributions in the areas of leadership in the profession, service to the organization as a role model and commitment to the community and the profession, in the early stages of his or her architectural career.
Connie Rivera’s career has been defined by leadership and service to the architectural profession at all levels. She has worked to increase the AIA’s (American Institute of Architects) value to its members by focusing on operations, civic engagement, diversity and the development of young architects. The profession’s influence in the community has expanded through her leadership.
Connie is an advocate for the community, especially in the areas of smart planning and continually applies her skills in service of others. She assisted in recovery efforts after Hurricane Harvey, conducting Rapid Safety Assessments with other volunteers in affected areas. She also worked with the Texas Windstorm Mitigation Assessment Team and local architects to review codes and construction practices to assess damage to buildings in the Coastal Bend region. The best practices identified during those post-Harvey efforts will inform changes and updates in the “Homeowner’s Handbook to Prepare for Coastal Natural Hazards,” which is published by Sea Grant Texas at Texas A&M University.
Additionally, Connie has served on numerous state and local boards and committees throughout her career, working to create positive change for the community, encourage the advancement of emerging professionals, and increasing awareness of the importance of good design.
Ms. Rivera is a Registered Architect in the State of Texas, National Council of Architectural Registration Boards Certified, and a US Green Building Council, Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional. A 1994 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Connie has worked with WKMC Architects since 2013.
